What is all the fuss about Trump’s Tariffs?

Other countries like the UK and Europe and Australia have had tariffs on USA products for years and other trade barriers designed to protect domestic industries (like beef in the case of Australia) from USA imports. It is ridiculous the way people are carrying on about the USA putting tariffs on their products. Australian trade barriers have prevented USA beef from entering the Australian market; Canada have had 200% tariffs in place against USA dairy products. So why shouldn’t the USA put tariffs on goods from these and other countries? All Trump is doing, is doing to others what they have been doing to the USA for years.

Retaliation is stupid

Retaliating against the USA by raising tariffs against the USA products is stupid. The USA tariffs raise the price of other countries’ goods for USA consumers. Increasing tariffs against USA products is not going to lower the price of other countries’ goods which enter the USA. USA consumers have a choice to either keep purchasing other countries’ goods at higher prices, or try to purchase those goods manufactured domestically. New production will spring up in the USA for those products. New USA jobs will be created. All retaliation might do is cause the USA to further increase their tariffs to a point where other countries’ goods won’t be able to compete against domestic production in the USA. Those other countries can retaliate as much as they like, but they won’t be selling in the USA market. Which benefits domestic producers of the same sorts of products.
