The recent decision of the Australian government to recognise a palestinian state is foolishness. It won’t lead to peace, but war.
Australia is an island. It has no land borders with another country. It doesn’t share a border with a country that wants to destroy it utterly. It has not suffered the murder and rape of 1200 of its citizens. It is easy for the leaders of Australia to pontificate.
Recognition of a palestinian state does absolutely nothing to bring peace to the region around Israel. Palestinian land was taken when the State of Israel was formed in 1947 and the palestinians still want it returned. All setting up a palestinian state will do is put two states side by side: One still determined to wipe the other out; and the other determined to pre-emptively strike to diminish any perceived threat. Indeed the likelihood is that Israel will one day invade the palestinian state and take it over.
